It’s awesome how, when you hear a quote that resonates deeply within you, you feel empowered to dream. As much as I read, I find quotes like this so often that I feel overwhelmed. Just like all of the ideas for businesses and projects, it quickly becomes nearly impossible to believe I can do all of them and then I start to wonder, “Where do I start?” I found a quote that is somewhat similar to the one I mentioned in September in the post titled, “19. Epiphany,” that comes from Jim Carrey.
“The decisions we make in this moment are based in either love or fear. Many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe for it. If you can fail at what you don’t want, you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.”
Love or fear. I know that I have been faced with making a decision because I love the idea of it, and also there have been times where I’ve been backed into a corner and felt forced to make a quick decision that was ultimately a result of fear. Either way, you will find yourself days, months or years later, and you probably don’t even remember the decision or the circumstances surrounding it. What I’ve come to find over the past few years is that it really serves no purpose to agonize over the decisions you are faced with.

As it relates to our dreams, I’ve noticed that we’re all in different places in our life or career. However, we also have a varying degree of circumstances that cause an internal debate. Think about it. If you’ve spent many years at the same job and made advancements that have allowed you to make more money or have more responsibilities and the thought of leaving that is scary, especially when you have a family to support or financial goals you have set. Or if you have things in your life that have gotten in the way of your moving ahead with your goals or plans. Regardless of the reasons, when you are faced with the choice to make a big move towards your ideal life, that love or fear is something that you need to quickly take control of that and realize that, again, down the road, you won’t be as negatively affected if something doesn’t work out the way you had hoped.
So, this is my last post of 2017 as we enter the Christmas season, and as we look into the new year and begin to think about what we want to accomplish in 2018, just remember that you have to dare to dream and achieve. In sales, when you have to make 100 calls in a day and you hear “no, no, no, no, no,” the key thing to remember is that “the more ‘no’s’ you get, the closer you are to a ‘yes.'” We have to be responsible and weigh all of the choices responsibly, but keep the ball rolling. Decide. Move forward. If it doesn’t work out, keep going and make the next decision. Like Jim Carrey said, if you are going to fail at something you don’t love, why won’t you at least go after something you do love and keep at it until you succeed. Then you will have succeeded at doing something you love.
2018. It’s right around the corner and will be here before you know it. Be brave and assertive and just know that there is always someone there to help if you need it, including me! I hope you all have a safe and amazing Christmas season and we’ll see you next year!
